Y'all see that picture up there? Yes, the serpent known as Huey's 24/7 Diner is still eating it's own tail. An Eater tipster reports that the diner's fifth go of it is coming soon to the Wyndham Garden Hotel at 201 Baronne Street in the CBD, replacing the space occupied by Yokohama Sushi. A phone call to the hotel confirms it. The diner should be open in about two weeks, right around Christmas time.
In a saga that's about one Heather Locklear short of Melrose Place status, four Huey's locations have been opened and shuttered since last November, prompting outrage from disgruntled employees and speculation about the intention of owner Jason Doyle and his restaurant group (which also own the Press It Bistrot and Automat and New Orleans Famous Beignets).
In August, employees were ordered by Doyle to vacate the Jax Brewery location with just 15-minutes notice before being locked out. Last month (the day before Thanksgiving to be exact) the Vets location? which previously shuttered temporarily after a kitchen fire? was closed for good with employees receiving no notice. Apparently, their final checks were also drawn on the bad Jax location account. What dramatic treasures await the Wyndham location will only be revealed in time. Like sands through the hour glass, so are the days of Huey's 24/7 diner.
