This is really happening: the owner of Rick's Cabaret, Robert Watters, is opening up a traditional bar with a literary New Orleans theme in the Quarter. The bar is called Backspace Bar & Kitchen. No topless dancers, but typewriters on the wall, cocktails beloved by writers (Hemingway daiqs), and bar food. The opening is actually next week, November 9.
Backspace bar and kitchen is moving into Evelyn's Place at 139 Chartres, which was recently closed after owner Frank Louis Cimini, 'The Old Bastard' who was lovingly loathed by regulars, passed away.
