This is a big day for St. Claude's underground music go-to, Siberia. The bar is making their case before City Council today at 1:30p.m, and hoping for a recommendation from the City Planning Commission in regards to their live music permit. In the latest addition to their ongoing permit/zoning drama, Siberia has been granted permission to host live music events temporarily (in October and November).
Siberia was never zoned for live music, so they basically need approval from the city to get a mayoralty permit application and a zoning variance request, which will allow them to be grandfathered in so to speak, and will probably cost them a big chunk of change. Nothing is guaranteed either. "We know we have a small amount of opposition," Siberia posted on Facebook earlier today, "so we need to get out our much larger group of supporters. The City has been very cooperative with us, so let's keep it positive!"
