If you haven't realized that Central City is the new hotness, it's time to recognize. Tamara Muro, Barista Guild of America certified barista/owner of the Velvet To Geaux mobile and Velvet Espresso Bar, the tiny Uptown artisan bakery/coffee haunt across from Whole Foods on Magazine, is opening Velvet Central on O.C. Haley by Christmas, in a 1,200 square foot space in that huge building up there, which will also house the New Orleans Redevelopment Agency's offices.
"We'll have a lot more specialty coffees, since there's so much more space, " Muro told Eater this morning on the phone. "I'm bringing in baristas from everywhere." They'll serve Intellegentsia and Stumptown coffee and house made pop tarts and teacakes that hopefully nobody will steal this time around.
Other new additions to O.C. Haley include Adrian's Bakery, and the upcoming Southern Food and Beverage Museum into a 30,000 square foot space which also include plans for a restaurant. Not too mention a few blocks away the much-anticipated Maïs Arepas is getting ready to open.
