Reviews for the Rib Room, the Delachaise, and More

Unsurprisingly, prime rib is a central focus of The Rib Room, the French Quarter stalwart that Rene Bajeux joined as executive chef last spring. Writing in this week's Gambit, Ian McNulty notes that, since Bajeux's arrival, the Rib Room's "defining feature remains its big-shouldered, mid-century style," complete with that namesake dish. But the other food is good, too:

Seafood has long played second fiddle at the Rib Room. No more. In fact, dishes like the exceptional (though startlingly expensive) shrimp and tasso salad and the wild salmon with cucumber mint coulis can be some of the best options here.
Some of the dishes "fall flat" but all in all, Bajeux's arrival, "this major restaurant is a more exciting place." [Gambit]

And in Go NOLA, Lorin Gaudin talked up the Caesar Salad Poor Boy at Scott Boswell's casual spot on Jackson Square, Stanley. The sandwich is a major twist on a local classic, "typifying Scott's culinary style," with New Orleans french bread layered with pepperoni pizza and caesar salad fixins. [Go NOLA]

WWL's "secret" critic, Napoleon, reviewed uptown wine bar The Delachaise, writing that "the food often reaches and sometimes exceeds the quality and creativity you'd expect at a full-fledged restaurant." But it's still a bar, so be prepared for "wedging yourself between other patrons lining the bar and preening for the bartender's attention as they fill drink orders." [WWL]

And rounding out the best of this week's reviews, NOLA Defender tried out Noodle and Pie, a pop-up run by the folks from Dante's Kitchen inside the Prytania Street breakfast spot, Coulis. With housemade noodles and "rich broth," the noodles from this pop-up "can hold their own" against stiff competition from national leaders like David Chang and local icons like Miss Linda. [NoDef]
