Word on the street is that the Bistro at the Maison de Ville might not be coming back. The French Quarter restaurant is currently closed "for vacation and renovation," but rumors have been leaking for the last few days that it's shuttered for good. Bad news for fans of Friday lunch in the Quarter (and who isn't?)
Rene at Blackened Out got Chef Greg Picolo to comment on the rumors, and he said, "We are closed 4 vacation til mid sept. When we will asses reopening possibilities. will keep u posted. thx." In other words, not saying we're closing, but not saying we're not. Just sayin'.
The Bistro - modeled off of traditional French bistros - has been in operation on and off for 25 years, opening in 1986, taking a while to reopen after Katrina, then re-closing indefinitely in June 2006, before re-reopening in May 2007. It was also the birthplace of the Krewe of Cork, probably the most civilized of all the booze-fueled French Quarter Mardi Gras parading krewes.
