Onling voting starts today for the not-really-prestigious-but-still-pretty-cool award from Southern Living for the "tastiest town in the South.". Louisiana's got two towns, New Orleans and Lafayette (Go Ragin' Cajuns!) vying for the arbitrary-ish title.
Typically, this would be just kind of meh, but the Ind, Lafayette's alt weekly, makes a good point:
Sure, Lafayette is up against New Orleans. And while most of us here in the Hub City consider the Crescent City to be our home away from home and comrade in arms against horrible food and music, let's face it: Lafayette needs this more. New Orleans is known across the globe for its exquisite cuisine. Let's let Lafayette get a little famous for the same thing.Plus, "The more South Louisiana can link up and be known for the fare along I-10 the more all the cities win." If Lafayette gets the attention, "all Acadiana cities get some love." Also, ever been to Lafayette? Pretty freaking tasty.
So do the Louisiana thing and vote early and vote often. You can vote once per day per IP address, and voting runs through January 31. The voting happens here
