Ever wonder how or why NOLA Brewing Company came into being? The University of New Orleans clearly did, so they published this pretty in-depth feature of NOLA Brewing president Kirk Coco. (Jump to page 30.)
UNO student Adam Norris writes a pretty solid piece on the evolution and success of the only production brewery in Orleans Parish. He quotes Coco on the initial inspiration for starting up:
"I was drinking Dixie religiously at the time," Coco says. "And by the way, the label of the bottle says 'Dixie New Orleans.' And I'm looking at the bottle and I say, 'Oh my God, made in Monroe, Wisconsin!' I had been drinking this beer for the last six months ... and the money's been going to Wisconsin."So he hooked up with a master brewer and started making some really good beer. You go Kirk Coco.
And in other NOLA Brewing news, they're still doing their brewery tours at 2pm every Friday (so, in a little over an hour from now) and tonight they're tapping a cask of Hopitoulas at Avenue Pub.
