This weekend, the city's leaders in barbecue will get to show off their stuff at the Crescent City Blues and BBQ Festival, October 14-16 at Lafayette Square Park. We might not have the barbecue legacy of Texas or North Carolina, but dammit, we're well on our way to becoming a barbecue town in our own right. This weekend might just prove that.
According to NewOrleans.com, in addition to all the usual suspects (The Joint, Lucy's Retired Surfer's Bar) the weekend's fess will feature the latest entry into New Orleans' 'cue culture: soon-to-open Metairie joint, Smokin' Buddha BBQieux. Also in attendance will be those really really ridiculously good cochon de lait po' boys from Jazz Fest, by Love at First Bite, and a foray into roast pork by La Divina Gelateria.
The Crescent City Blues and BBQ Festival is put on by the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation, so you know there'll be good music, too, including but not limited to Bettye LaVette.
