Dominique's on Magazine Named One of the Best New Restaurants of 2011 by Esquire

So Esquire just announced their list of the best new restaurants of 2011 and New Orleans got some love. Representing the Crescent City is Dominique's on Magazine, the small and super-popular restaurant run by chef and namesake Dominique Macquet. Macquet was formerly the chef at the restaurant at the Maison Dupuy, also called Dominique's.

The best-ness of Dominique's on Magazine has proved to be a double-edged sword. The space is so small that, in August, Macquet announced he was leaving to open a new Dominique's on Magazine in a larger space. The name is moving with him, so the current iteration of the restaurant will, in theory, be called something else when he finally departs in February. Macquet is also set to open the new restaurant in the Hotel Modern (formerly Hotel Le Cirque), a French-Vietnamese operation called Tamarind.

In addition to the best new restaurants, Esquire also gave awards for a couple other categories, including giving a dubious cookbook award to itself. National has more coverage.
