State agents from the ATC just swept the helk out of uptown. The Uptown Messenger reports that Cooter Brown’s, Snake and Jake’s and Dos Jefes have all been charged with maintaining a public nuisance, selling tobacco to minors, and letting minors into their bars. The first public hearing for the bars in front of the Alcohol Control Board started this afternoon at 1p.m. No word on the outcome yet.
The ATC has been cracking down all over the city, or as one Messenger commenter says, "running a money grab sting operation." Wit's End in Mid-City faces public nuisance charges, as do two corner stores, one on Oak and the other in Central City. In the past year alone, college hangouts, Rocco’s and TJ Quills, have signed strict operating agreements after violating alcohol laws, and Big Time Tips in Hollygrove has closed permanently.
