Turkish pastries, sandwiches, and salads will soon fill the shuttered Treme jazz bar Joe’s Cozy Corner. Restaurateur Fatma Aydin is in the process of revamping the space to open her own establishment, Fatma’s Cozy Corner, according to Ian McNulty.
The restaurant spells the next chapter in the history of 1532 Ursulines Ave. Prior to Joe’s the spot was known as Ruth’s Cozy Corner. Aydin has worked on numerous restaurant projects over the years including Mona Liza Restaurant, Café Istanbul, and Fellini’s among others. She recently sold off Fatoush in Marigny, which is now slated to become The Spotted Cat Food & Spirits.
The menu at Fatma’s Cozy Corner is expected to draw on Aydin’s Turkish heritage with coffee, flaky borek pastries, feta cheese pies, and more on offer. The new bakery and cafe is on track to debut this month.
